AETC: Supporting Tourism Companies Through Product Development

Product development has been one of the key activities in the Arctic Europe Tourism Cluster (AETC) project. Through a series of live discussions, presentations, online and on-site workshops and webinars, the aim has been to support participating companies in developing market-relevant products with a special focus on potential seasons (spring and autumn) by strengthening their understanding of service design, experience development, storytelling and authenticity in the Arctic context.

All online sessions were recorded, and video material is available on the AETC YouTube channel.

We encourage companies that are not part of the AETC project to watch the recordings, as the content is relevant for anyone working with product development and service design in tourism.

Some of the work was facilitated directly by the AETC team at an early stage of the project. Already in June 2024, product development discussions were organised during one of the AETC networking events in Levi, including a panel discussion with tour operators focusing on co-development of products in potential seasons.

The majority of the product development activities were implemented in collaboration with our product development partner Arctic Factory from Northern Finland. Arctic Factory is a consulting agency specializing in strategic design and agile design, with extensive experience working with tourism companies and destinations across Arctic Europe.

The product development programme offered in collaboration with Arctic Factory consisted of:

One live workshop in Luleå, Sweden (January 2025)

Four online workshops focusing on service design and experience design

Validation activities during the AETC Sales Workshop in Inari (September 2025)

Two online webinars on the topic of Back to the roots.

In addition, market insight webinars were delivered in collaboration with the Nordic Tourism Collective, focusing on key markets such as the UK, USA, France, Italy and Spain.
